Newsflash

A few posts ago, I was complaining that there wasn't any news. Now I'm inundated. Everyone, we can stop our war on reality to read these articles.

Remember earlier today when I was babbling on about the possibility that the dead animals slung on the doorsteps of Salem, MA psychics may have something to do with the legal shenanigans the local psychics are going through in order to prevent traveling psychics from stealing their bizznezz? Well, I was right. *pats self on back*

Here's the latest on the situation, courtesy of The Boston Herald: Road kill spells trouble: Dead raccoon casts strange light on Salem’s fortune-tellers.

If you want a really lovely and detailed description of the situation, head over to The Wild Hunt blog for this post. Psychic Wars in Salem. (It's a grown-up blog on Pagan affairs and this blog wants to be just like it if it ever grows up. *nods*)

Oh noes! A Kentucky library is allowing a Magic: The Gathering game to take place on it's premises. Some parents are not pleased: Game causes controversy

To quote a much-loved song by Justin Connor, aptly called Kentucky, "Oh Kentucky, what have they done to you?"

Meanwhile, the psychics in this Florida town seem to be getting along together a little better than their counterparts in Salem: Seeking Spirits in a Psychic Town

And to top it all off, more on the Harry Potter bru-ha-ha. This time, a teaching assistant that quit because she didn't want to listen to a student read from a Harry Potter book, since HP promotes witchcraft, which is, of course, "an abomination." Teaching assistant quit in protest at Harry Potter.

Whew -- it's late -- bed time for little Connie. G'night folks.

Salem, MA fortune tellers are finding dead roadkill on their doorsteps. Fortune Tellers Harassed With Road Kill.

Possibly fallout from this story I mentioned earlier about psychics in Salem who are calling for stricter licensing for fellow psychics. Psychics may have to pass test to practice.

I still find the whole thing questionable. I'm all for defending people from charlatans and jackasses. But in a market like Salem, which is known for it's history of witchcraft, the desire to lock people out of the market place by imposing stricter licensing has to be driving some people. I'm wondering if any of the laws passed about licensing will exclude tests for people who are already working in Salem. Hmmmm...

The world of for-pay psychics can be an ugly and opportunistic one. From my experiences back home, I can attest to the fact that some professional psychics will do anything to ensure that they don't lose clients.

I'm too cynical. Or am I?

Currently working on my next review. In the mean time....

Officials in China are prevailing upon psychics in order to know the future. Officials have more faith in superstitions than the Party

Psychics in Salem, MA are calling for tests and stricter licensing for fellow psychics. Is it altruism and community concern or is it attempting to protect their market share? You decide. Psychics may have to pass test to practice.

And finally, accused "satanist" sets fire to historic church in Burlington, IA. The best part of this article is when one of the satanic items found in the little punk's room is the Devil May Cry video game. It has the word Devil on it! Satanic ritual tool! From Capcom! (The people who made Streetfighter and Megaman.) Also entertaining is when Police Chief Dan Luttenegger states that the term satanic is used whenever occult items are found "for lack of a better terminology." What? Police men don't get dictionaries any more? ! Legal Link Cloudy

That's it for now -- more as it happens.
